Family Support Services - Parenting Education, Problem ID and Referral



Goals for family support services include:

  • 1) Establish clear family expectations about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs;

  • 2) Teach their children to avoid trouble and still have friends; 

  • 3) Learn skills to reduce family conflict; 

  • 4) Increase children’s roles in the family;

  • 5) Manage their families better; 

  • 6) Fewer of their children will experiment with drugs, or tobacco; 

  • 7) Family conflict will be reduced;

  • 8) Family bonds will be strengthen; and

  • 9) Strengthen communication between parents and their children. Risk/Protective Factors: 30-day use, Age at First Use, Attitude Toward Use (Disapproval of drug use), Attitude Toward Use (Favorable attitudes toward use), Perceived Harm/Risk (Perceived Harm), Perceived Parental Attitudes Toward ATOD Use, Resistance Skills, Life Skills (Decision making skills), Family Cohesion.
